Backend Engineer (Multiple Positions)

Location: Remote within the United States. Geographic pay zones cover the San Francisco/Bay Area, New York City Metropolitan Area, Boston, Seattle, Irvine, Los Angeles, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, Chicago, and all other US locations.

Salary: $145,500–$235,400 annual base pay depending on US geographic zone and level.

What you will do

• Design, implement, test, and operate production backend services and APIs.
• Lead projects or significant components from problem definition through deployment and iteration.
• Make tradeoffs across scalability, performance, reliability, security, maintainability, and delivery speed.
• Improve observability and operability through metrics, logs, traces, alerting, and incident learning.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Support, Customer Success, and engineering teams to deliver customer-focused solutions.
• Investigate production issues, participate in technical design discussions, and contribute to code reviews.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production software, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, testing, debugging, and API design.
• Backend development experience with Go, Python, Rust, or an equivalent language; most teams use Go.
• Experience building reliable, observable, and maintainable services that scale with usage.
• Ability to communicate technical decisions and tradeoffs with technical and non-technical partners.
• Collaborative approach, ownership, and comfort learning unfamiliar systems and solving ambiguous problems.
