Distributed Systems Software Engineer (WarpStream)

Location: Remote within the United States; listed locations include Poughkeepsie, Lowell, Rochester, Tucson, Research Triangle Park, Armonk, Boston, Bellevue, Atlanta, San Jose, Dallas, Austin, San Francisco, and Seattle. Some travel may be required based on business demand.

Salary: $161,000–$299,000 per year.

What you will do

• Drive complex technical projects independently from architecture through production delivery.
• Build and operate mission-critical backend services for the WarpStream Apache Kafka-compatible streaming platform.
• Develop storage-engine capabilities on top of object storage and improve the scalability of the multi-tenant control plane.
• Implement platform features such as transactions and active-active multi-region clusters.
• Debug complex systems involving microservices, containers, virtualization, networking, and developer-console code.
• Ensure operational readiness, reliability, performance, and compliance with customer availability SLAs; participate in on-call support.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience designing, building, scaling, and supporting production backend systems.
• Strong programming and algorithmic skills with proficiency in a major language such as Java, Go, C, C++, or Python.
• Deep interest in distributed systems and storage systems, plus experience with large-scale production services.
• Strong project delivery, communication, teamwork, customer focus, technical leadership, and mentorship skills.
• Experience driving operational excellence and handling critical systems on call.
• Must be based in the United States; some business travel may be required.

• Master’s degree.
• Experience delivering large-scale, highly available, high-quality systems.
