TL;DR
Acute Coding Appeals Specialist (Medical Coding/Revenue Cycle Management): Reviewing and writing inpatient DRG denial appeals using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS, NCCI, CMS, and CMG expertise with an accent on clinical documentation, coding compliance, and regulatory standards. Focus on substantiating assigned codes, identifying billing and coding issues, researching payer and governmental requirements, and improving appeal outcomes through client education.

Location: Remote nationwide within the United States; candidates must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States. The role requires willingness and ability to travel to and work onsite at client, temporary, or corporate office locations as business needs require.

Salary: $29.70–$31.80 per hour, based on experience.

What you will do

  • Review and write appeals for inpatient Diagnosis Related Group denials.
  • Evaluate clinical documentation and substantiate assigned diagnosis and procedure codes.
  • Apply ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS, NCCI, CMS, and CMG coding standards.
  • Research governmental, payer-specific, hospital-specific, regulatory, and literature requirements.
  • Document root-cause issues using account records, spreadsheets, claims, and coding examples.
  • Support client education and training related to coding appeal outcomes and regulatory updates.

Requirements

  • At least five years of coding experience, including previous inpatient facility coding and appeals, denials, or edits.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical coding and billing systems, documentation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Active coding certification such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CIC, CPC, or COC.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to meet productivity standards and coding certification requirements.
  • Must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States and be able to travel onsite when required.
