Deputy Director Manufacturing Operations (Biopharma)

What you will do

• Lead manufacturing teams supporting upstream and downstream Flublok drug substance operations.
• Oversee cell culture, protein production, clarification, purification, and related manufacturing unit operations.
• Maintain production readiness across equipment, materials, documentation, personnel, schedules, quality, and compliance.
• Lead deviation investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and Lean manufacturing improvements.
• Establish performance management routines using +QDCI metrics and visual management tools.
• Collaborate with Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Process Development, Supply Chain, and Engineering on inspections, technology transfers, capacity planning, budgets, and risk management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, life sciences, business, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical manufacturing and 5+ years of progressive hands-on leadership in a GMP manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of GMP and GDP requirements and practical shop-floor problem-solving experience.
• Experience with Lean manufacturing, including 5S, Gemba problem solving, daily capacity management, defect reduction, and root cause analysis.
• Experience with performance management frameworks such as +QDCI, strong conflict management, prioritization, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Understanding of cell growth and propagation principles in biopharmaceutical drug substance manufacturing.

Nice to have

• Experience leading Managers or Supervisors.
• Advanced degree in life sciences, engineering, business administration, or a related technical field.
• Hands-on experience with single-use systems, chromatography, tangential flow filtration, stainless steel systems, fermenters, or bioreactors.
