IT Security Operations Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hinxton, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom; hybrid working patterns available

Salary: £3,452.05 or £3,861.91 per month after tax, depending on grade, plus benefits and financial allowances. Excludes 12.99% personal pension and insurance contributions.

What you will do

• Lead vulnerability management across technology assets, including identification, prioritisation, remediation tracking, and reporting.
• Investigate and coordinate responses to security incidents, suspicious activity, and alerts from security monitoring tools.
• Operate, configure, and optimise endpoint, email, firewall, vulnerability scanning, and other security technologies.
• Implement security improvements across on-premise and cloud environments with infrastructure, platform, and service teams.
• Maintain security processes, documentation, metrics, dashboards, technical baselines, and operational reporting.
• Automate routine security tasks, support resilience initiatives, monitor emerging threats, and provide practical guidance to technical teams.

Requirements

• Experience in IT security operations, cybersecurity, or infrastructure security.
• Strong knowledge of vulnerability management, remediation workflows, incident response, security monitoring, and SIEM platforms.
• Knowledge of operating system security across Mac, Windows, and Linux, plus identity and access management, networking, and common security protocols.
• Experience supporting enterprise security technologies such as endpoint protection, email security, firewalls, and vulnerability scanners.
• Ability to write automation scripts using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar languages.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Experience securing public cloud platforms and Microsoft 365 security technologies.
• Knowledge of Tenable, Qualys, Rapid7, Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, or Elastic.
• Experience implementing EDR/XDR, Identity Governance, Privileged Access Management, and cybersecurity frameworks.
• Experience in scientific research, higher education, or the public sector.
