Payments Analyst

Location: On-site in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Relocation support includes a flight and temporary housing.

What you will do

• Own authorization-rate measurement across countries, issuers, BINs, card brands, funding types, plans, payment methods, first payments, and renewals.
• Build decline taxonomies, identify recoverable declines, and measure payment performance using the correct business unit of analysis.
• Analyze the blended cost of acceptance, including interchange, scheme fees, processor markup, cross-border costs, currency conversion, disputes, and transaction fees.
• Evaluate local payment methods, merchant-of-record structures, local acquiring, entities, and processor routing through market models and experiments.
• Optimize retry and dunning strategies, stored-credential health, involuntary churn, disputes, chargebacks, refunds, and reconciliation.
• Partner with Finance, Product, Engineering, the antifraud team, and the payment processor.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in payments analytics, payment operations, billing, or risk at a merchant, PSP, acquirer, or fintech.
• Strong SQL skills and the ability to work independently with raw processor and billing data in BigQuery.
• Working knowledge of Python for analysis.
• Understanding of authorization, capture, settlement, decline codes, 3DS, SCA, network tokens, account updater, interchange, scheme fees, chargebacks, MCC, BIN, cross-border payments, and DCC.
• Experience with subscription billing, renewals, proration, plan changes, failed payments, dunning, and involuntary churn.
• Clear written and spoken English at B2+ level.

Nice to have

• Experience in payment operations or analytics at a consumer subscription, marketplace, or gaming company.
• Background at a PSP, acquirer, orchestration platform, card network, or in billing, revenue operations, risk, or chargebacks.
