TL;DR
Master Thesis, 30 hp: Non-contact Torque Sensor (Aerospace): Investigating non-contact torque sensing principles for flight control and actuation systems through literature review, modelling, simulation, and laboratory prototyping with an accent on aerospace integration, sensor performance, and safety-critical requirements. Focus on designing a suitable sensor concept, characterising accuracy and dynamic response, and assessing its potential for certified flight control applications.

Location: Huskvarna, Sweden

Company

hirify.global is a defence and security company developing advanced aerospace, weapons, command and control, sensor, and underwater systems.

What you will do

  • Review literature, patents, and relevant standards for non-contact torque sensing technologies.
  • Develop a technical concept for integrating sensor hardware and signal conditioning into an actuator or flight-control drivetrain.
  • Create analytical and simulation models to evaluate torque range, accuracy, repeatability, speed sensitivity, and error sources.
  • Design, build, and test a laboratory prototype, measuring linearity, hysteresis, accuracy, dynamic response, speed dependence, and repeatability.
  • Compare experimental results with model and simulation predictions.
  • Document the findings and recommend potential applications and next steps for safety-critical flight-control systems.

Requirements

  • Master's student completing a 30 hp thesis project.
  • Strong interest in aerospace, fluid power, and control systems.
  • Ability to combine analytical modelling with practical prototyping and testing.
  • Interest in non-contact sensing principles such as magnetic, optical, inductive, capacitive, ultrasonic, or strain-encoding technologies.
  • Successful security vetting is required; additional citizenship obligations may apply for positions requiring security clearance.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work closely with experienced engineers and specialists in a high-technology environment.
  • Receive qualified supervision and access to relevant documentation and technical experts.
  • Connect academic research with the development, qualification, and operation of real flight-control systems.
  • Gain practical insight into transitioning aerospace technologies from concept to certified product.
