AI Research Scientist

Location: Toronto, ON, Canada. The role may require in-person onboarding and/or in-person identity verification.

Base salary: $172,500–$253,000 per year for Canada-based roles. Offers may vary by experience and geographic location.

What you will do

• Develop foundation-model approaches for motion generation, editing, understanding, reasoning, and representation.
• Lead research end to end, from hypotheses and implementation through experimentation, failure analysis, iteration, and communication.
• Investigate motion representations, tokenization, generative modeling, multimodal alignment, scalable training, post-training, and model refinement.
• Design evaluations, benchmarks, ablations, and diagnostics for measuring model progress and failure modes.
• Build and modify research code, training pipelines, and data pipelines with emphasis on correctness, reproducibility, and scientific quality.
• Collaborate with researchers, developers, designers, and academic and industry partners while publishing at leading conferences and transferring successful ideas into hirify.global technologies.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in computer science, machine learning, computer vision, computer graphics, robotics, mathematics, or a related technical field.
• Consistent record of research publications in applied or fundamental research.
• Deep knowledge of generative or foundation-model methods, including Transformers, diffusion or flow models, and latent-variable models.
• Strong hands-on experience with PyTorch, JAX, or similar frameworks, including building, debugging, and scaling research training pipelines.
• Excellent experimental judgment and ability to turn ambiguous research questions into testable hypotheses, controlled experiments, useful metrics, and clear conclusions.
• Demonstrated ownership, persistence, and execution on difficult technical research problems.

Nice to have

• Research experience in human motion, character animation, motion capture, embodied agents, robotics, or spatiotemporal modeling.
• Experience with multimodal or foundation models combining motion with text, images, video, geometry, trajectories, or actions.
• Experience with learned motion representations, VQ/VAE-style methods, diffusion, flow matching, or autoregressive modeling.
• Experience with large-scale video foundation models, reinforcement learning, distributed training, dataset construction, or evaluation infrastructure.
• Knowledge of 3D geometry, computer graphics, geometric deep learning, physically grounded modeling, or hirify.global-related domains.
