Infrastructure Engineer (On-Prem Systems)

Location: San Francisco, CA office; hands-on, in-person role

What you will do

• Design standalone, high-performance on-prem systems covering compute, storage, networking, power, and rack layout.
• Prototype and benchmark throughput, network bandwidth, and memory contention.
• Create hardware and software bills of materials, wiring and rack diagrams, network and IP plans, provisioning procedures, and test instructions for Manufacturing.
• Harden customer appliances with encryption, network segmentation, firewall policies, and air-gapped update mechanisms.
• Run Kubernetes on fixed-capacity infrastructure, including node pools, worker placement, storage, and database services.
• Partner with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Field Services to move prototypes into repeatable products and incorporate field feedback into the technology roadmap.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building and operating physical server infrastructure, including racking, cabling, power sizing, and post-deployment troubleshooting.
• Experience with Linux server administration, network troubleshooting, Docker deployments, and productionizing systems.
• Experience configuring Linux systems and automating workflows with Ansible and scripting.
• Hands-on experience with bare-metal provisioning, including PXE/netboot, cloud-init, golden images, and Redfish or IPMI firmware and BIOS configuration.
• Strong networking knowledge covering VLANs, subnetting, DHCP, DNS, firewall policies, and link aggregation.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes on fixed-capacity infrastructure.

Nice to have

• Production experience with ZFS, including pool topology, resilver behavior, and native encryption.
• Experience shipping hardware, manufacturing handoff, ECO processes, or field service for deployed systems.
• Familiarity with NVIDIA GPU compute on ARM platforms, including DGX, Jetson, and CUDA, or with air-gapped and sensitive-data deployments.
