Quality Control Engineer (HD Mapping)

Salary: $89,600–$107,500 USD annually, plus bonus and stock options.

What you will do

• Review HD map geospatial data, including lane geometry, road boundaries, intersections, signage, and lane connectivity, against quality specifications and ground-truth sources.
• Perform quality control on map features derived from LiDAR point clouds, aerial and satellite imagery, and vehicle-collected sensor data.
• Identify, document, and triage map defects, escalating safety-critical issues to mapping and autonomy engineering teams.
• Define QC metrics, sampling strategies, audit workflows, and documentation for scalable mapping operations.
• Partner with mapping vendors, engineering, operations, and autonomy teams to communicate standards and resolve defects.
• Analyze recurring defect patterns and support readiness reviews for new lanes, corridors, and operational design domains.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 1–3 years of experience for QC Engineer I or 3–5 years for QC Engineer II in geospatial data QC, map production, GIS analysis, or a related quality or annotation role.
• Experience with geospatial data formats such as shapefiles, GeoJSON, and KML, as well as coordinate and projection systems.
• Familiarity with GIS tools such as ArcGIS or QGIS and/or LiDAR and point-cloud viewers.
• Strong attention to detail, large-dataset analysis skills, and the ability to define repeatable, data-driven QC processes.
• Ability to work remotely from the United States. Clear written communication and cross-functional collaboration skills are required.

Nice to have

• HD mapping experience for autonomous vehicles or trucking.
• Familiarity with Lanelet2, OpenDRIVE, OpenStreetMap, or LiDAR point-cloud processing tools.
• Python or SQL scripting for automated QC checks and spatial queries such as PostGIS.
• Highway or interstate corridor mapping experience and experience managing outsourced annotation teams.
• Familiarity with ISO 26262, ASPICE, or other functional safety and quality standards.
