Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Bellevue, United States; on-site

Salary: $180,000–$225,000 annual base salary

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services for the HLS healthcare products using Python and C#.
• Build the core orchestration engine for enterprise AI agents, robots, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Prototype ideas rapidly, validate them with customers, and ship successful concepts to production.
• Design evaluations and measure AI system quality against real customer data.
• Build scalable, reliable distributed systems with state management, retries, replayability, and long-running jobs.
• Participate in an on-call rotation approximately one week every two to three months.

Requirements

• Strong backend engineering experience with Python and/or C#.
• Production experience with AI systems, including LLMs, tool calling, structured outputs, orchestration, and model evaluation.
• Experience with agentic or workflow-based systems, multi-agent architectures, durable workflows, retries, and long-running execution.
• Experience with healthcare systems or standards such as Epic, Cerner, X12 EDI, HL7/FHIR, ICD-10/HCPCS, claims, or revenue cycle workflows.
• Experience designing resilient distributed systems and debugging non-deterministic behavior using empirical analysis.
• Ability to work on-site in Bellevue, United States.

Nice to have

• Applied machine learning, data science, experimentation, and AI evaluation experience.
• Large-scale data platforms, retrieval-augmented generation, or citation-grounded AI experience.
• Experience combining deterministic rules engines with probabilistic AI systems.
• Experience with PHI/HIPAA-aware engineering, multi-tenant systems, Kubernetes, or workflow platforms such as Temporal and Airflow.
• Startup, applied research, open-source, or 0-to-1 product experience.
