Sr. Automation Engineer (Bioassay Automation)

Location: Norwood, Massachusetts, United States. Site-based full-time; not eligible for remote work. Only U.S. persons are eligible due to U.S. export control requirements.

Salary: $121,600–$194,500 per year, with potential bonus, incentive compensation, or equity subject to eligibility and performance.

What you will do

• Develop and harden automated bioassay workflows from early prototypes into scalable, GMP-ready systems.
• Translate cell-based bioassays and sample preparation workflows into automation solutions while maintaining cell health, sterility, timing sensitivity, and assay integrity.
• Design automation strategies for cell maintenance, passaging, transfection, treatment, and assay execution.
• Own requirements definition, system integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment across the automation lifecycle.
• Partner with Analytical Development, Applied Technologies, Analytical Sciences & Technology, Digital, and QC Operations to transfer systems into regulated environments.
• Troubleshoot biological performance, liquid handling, system integration, assay variability, and automation-induced bias while driving platform standardization.

Requirements

• BS with 8 years of relevant experience, MS with 5 years of relevant experience, or a PhD in Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related discipline.
• Hands-on experience with cell-based bioassays or sample preparation workflows.
• Experience in regulated laboratory environments, including GLP or GMP.
• Experience programming and developing laboratory automation software, hardware, and liquid handlers.
• Must work full-time onsite at the hirify.global site in Norwood, Massachusetts; remote work is not available.
• Must qualify as a U.S. person under U.S. export control requirements; hirify.global cannot sponsor non-U.S. persons for an export control license.

Nice to have

• Experience deploying automation systems into GMP or regulated environments, including IQ/OQ/PQ validation, change control, lifecycle management, and regulatory documentation.
• Experience with mammalian cell culture, transfection, cell treatment, and plate-based bioassay sample preparation such as ELISA.
• Experience with cobot arms, decappers, centrifuges, dispensers, sealers, peelers, and other third-party automation hardware.
• Experience configuring Hamilton STAR or Vantage liquid handling systems and workcell scheduling software such as HighRes Cellario or Thermo CRS Momentum.
