Fractional Head of AI

Location: United States, remote; fractional engagement. This posting is for future opportunities and a candidate network rather than one specific open role.

Compensation: $250–$400 per hour, with engagement scope adjusted to strategic needs.

What you will do

• Define the AI strategy roadmap, prioritize initiatives, and align investment with business outcomes.
• Recruit, develop, and manage AI, machine learning, data science, MLOps, and analytics leaders.
• Partner with product, engineering, finance, and business units to embed AI into workflows.
• Translate technical progress into business impact for the board and C-suite while securing stakeholder buy-in.
• Establish governance and risk frameworks covering model deployment, data quality, bias mitigation, and compliance.
• Benchmark emerging tools, guide make-versus-build decisions, remove organizational friction, and scale AI initiatives into production.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building and scaling AI or machine learning functions.
• 3–5 years in a head-of-function or VP-level role.
• Hands-on experience shipping AI products or embedding AI into core business operations across the full lifecycle from strategy through production.
• Experience recruiting, mentoring, and scaling technical teams across multiple functions.
• Strong business acumen and executive communication skills, including the ability to translate technical depth into board-level strategy.
• Experience leading organizational change from AI exploration to sustainable practices with measurable ROI.
