Post Training (AI)

Location: Redmond, United States. Starting January 26, 2026, employees living within 50 miles of a U.S. Microsoft office are expected to work from the designated office at least four days per week.

Salary: USD $119,800–$234,700 per year across the U.S.; USD $160,200–$261,000 per year in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.

What you will do

• Develop data collection, evaluation, and post-training methods for large language models.
• Improve model capabilities in coding, reasoning, instruction following, mathematics, and agentic tasks.
• Design hypotheses and experiment plans for rapid iteration on model performance.
• Apply reward modeling, reinforcement learning, and other post-training techniques.
• Collaborate with engineers, scientists, product managers, designers, and other cross-functional partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline, plus 4+ years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Experience with reward modeling, reinforcement learning, or other post-training techniques.
• Ability to take end-to-end ownership, work collaboratively, and maintain strong engineering quality.
• For the Redmond-based work arrangement, regular office attendance is expected when living within the applicable distance of a Microsoft office.

Nice to have

• 6+ years of technical engineering experience or a relevant master's degree.
• Experience in large-scale AI and conversational AI deployment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
