Sr Software Development Engineer, SRE (US Federal)

Location: Reston, Virginia, USA; may require on-site work at client locations in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. At least 50% of each quarter is spent in the office or in the field.

Annual base salary: $163,800–$245,800 USD for the primary location; additional US locations: $148,200–$264,000 USD.

What you will do

• Run, manage, and scale containerized workloads on Kubernetes clusters in AWS GovCloud.
• Automate infrastructure, configurations, and deployment pipelines with Terraform, Terragrunt, Docker, AWS, and Argo CD.
• Design and maintain air-gapped deployment methods for secure, isolated environments.
• Build monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to improve service availability and platform visibility.
• Troubleshoot distributed platform, infrastructure, and network issues while collaborating with development, security, and cross-functional teams.
• Maintain federal security and compliance standards, document architecture, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government TS/SCI security clearance with CI Polygraph is required; an active TS/SCI with CI Polygraph is strongly preferred.
• Senior-level candidates: 5+ years of experience with production cloud infrastructure, DevOps pipelines, or platform engineering; mid-level candidates: 3+ years.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD and GitOps tools, including Terraform or Terragrunt and tools such as Argo CD, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
• Programming or scripting experience, preferably with Go or Python, plus experience leading technical initiatives, troubleshooting distributed systems, and mentoring engineers.
• Ability to work in the stated US office and client-site arrangement.

Nice to have

• Production experience with Kubernetes, AWS GovCloud, and Docker.
• Experience with air-gapped systems, isolated cloud architectures, and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.
• Knowledge of FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, Zero Trust architecture, or DoD 8570/8140 requirements.
• Relevant security certifications and a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
