Algorithmic Underwriting Lead (underwriting automation/rules engine): Managing and improving the rules engine that drives automated underwriting decisions, recommendations, in-scope assessments, and bind processing with an accent on underwriting accuracy, reliability, and commercial judgment. Focus on translating underwriting frameworks into operational logic, investigating decisioning defects, and enabling scalable automation in collaboration with underwriting, controls, and technical stakeholders.
Location: London, Norwich or Birmingham, United Kingdom; hybrid with at least three days per week in the office

What you will do
- Own and manage the rules engine supporting automated underwriting decisioning for Fast Track.
- Enable automated underwriting decisions, Account Manager recommendations, initial in-scope and out-of-scope assessments, and automated bind processing.
- Ensure decisioning remains within the Underwriting Framework and supports sound judgment when outcomes are not binary.
- Monitor system performance, decision outcomes and exception trends; investigate and correct defects, inconsistencies and logic gaps.
- Partner with the Chief Underwriting Officer, Technical Underwriting Managers and Underwriting Oversight & Controls Manager to improve the rules engine and Underwriting Framework.
- Bridge underwriting strategy, framework design and automation delivery while supporting business goals.
Requirements
- Experience in underwriting automation, pricing model development, decision engines or rules management.
- Strong understanding of underwriting frameworks, referrals and decision-support processes.
- Ability to translate underwriting rules and commercial intent into operational logic.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical judgment skills, with a detail-oriented and disciplined approach.
- Experience collaborating with underwriting, controls, technical and operational stakeholders.
- Availability to work from the London, Norwich or Birmingham office at least three days per week.
