Senior Machine Learning Engineering Manager, Safety AI Systems

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional office presence Monday and Friday

Salary: $295,250–$345,040 USD annual base pay

What you will do

• Own the technical vision, direction, and execution of multimodal Safety AI systems.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of machine learning engineers.
• Architect and guide large-scale machine learning models and production-ready systems.
• Develop solutions for real-time understanding and moderation of avatars, images, video, audio, text, and code.
• Collaborate with Product, Data Science, Policy, Design, Operations, and Trust & Safety partners.
• Drive technical alignment, roadmaps, and continuous improvements for platform safety.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building large-scale machine learning systems in production.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching machine learning models from scratch.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with vision-language models or other foundation model technologies.
• Expertise in machine learning modeling, data, infrastructure, cloud services, scalable data pipelines, and distributed systems.
• Experience with modern microservice architectures and the ability to contribute hands-on to code and architecture discussions.
• Strong product judgment, cross-functional collaboration, mentoring, conflict resolution, and strategic planning skills.
