Lead Engineer - Attendee Experience (Ruby on Rails)

Location: Lisbon, Portugal; hybrid workplace with on-site work at events

What you will do

• Build and improve the web app used by attendees before and during events.
• Work end to end with Product and Design to ship small, useful improvements frequently.
• Keep the application fast and reliable for tens of thousands of concurrent users.
• Make production changes safe through testing, monitoring, staged rollouts, and recovery plans.
• Develop engineers through clear expectations, feedback, pairing, delegation, and support with performance concerns.
• Work on site at events, observe attendee behavior, and use those insights to improve the product.

Requirements

• Strong Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL experience.
• Experience with server-rendered views and JavaScript where appropriate.
• Experience shipping and improving customer-facing software in small increments.
• Experience growing products from small building blocks while keeping the architecture maintainable.
• Demonstrated ability to develop engineers, set expectations, give feedback, delegate responsibility, and address performance concerns fairly.
