Director, Design Management (AI Infrastructure)

Location: Livingston, NJ; New York, NY; Sunnyvale, CA; San Francisco, CA; or Bellevue, WA. The role requires 20% travel to various data center sites and access to export-controlled information.

Base salary: $198,000–$264,000 per year, plus discretionary bonus, equity awards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Design Managers responsible for data center project delivery.
• Oversee design execution across concurrent greenfield, build-to-suit, leased, fit-out, renovation, infrastructure upgrade, and equipment replacement projects.
• Establish design governance, project controls, review milestones, risk registers, change controls, and escalation processes.
• Coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, data center providers, equipment suppliers, and internal Engineering, Technology, Construction, and Operations teams.
• Manage consultant selection, scopes, fees, performance, budgets, schedules, design changes, and portfolio reporting.
• Support procurement, construction, commissioning, and deployment by resolving RFIs, submittals, field conditions, design clarifications, and handoff issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Architectural, or a related engineering discipline.
• 15+ years of experience in data center design, engineering, design management, construction, or project delivery, including 5+ years in leadership or people management.
• Expertise in data center design project management, including scope, schedules, budgets, risks, consultants, deliverables, technical reviews, and stakeholder decisions.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering large-scale, high-density data center projects across multiple locations and delivery models.
• Working knowledge of power distribution, UPS systems, generators, cooling plants, liquid cooling, BMS and controls, life-safety systems, low-voltage systems, white space infrastructure, and structured cabling.
• Must meet applicable U.S. export-control access requirements for controlled information.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, PMP, Uptime Institute, LEED, BICSI, or similar certification.
