Senior Machine Learning Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Bristol, Chester or Manchester, United Kingdom; hybrid with at least two days per week or 40% of working time at an office site

What you will do

• Develop and maintain production machine learning systems in Python with data scientists and machine learning engineers.
• Take projects from experimentation through production, integrating CI/CD tools, APIs, Dynatrace, and other systems.
• Collaborate with business, platform, architecture, governance, and technical teams to define requirements and influence decisions.
• Propose and evaluate technology, platform, and architecture choices in line with engineering standards.
• Provide technical leadership through knowledge sharing and consistent engineering practices.
• Lead incident management, resolution, and continuous improvement for machine learning solutions.

Requirements

• Advanced understanding of software engineering, programming, automated testing, CI/CD, and production deployments.
• Commercial experience with Python machine learning libraries including Pandas, Scikit-learn, and XGBoost.
• Experience with cloud services, data stores, and architectures such as Vertex AI, BigQuery, and Cloud Run.
• Hands-on experience with MLOps tooling and large datasets, including Kubeflow Pipelines, dbt, and production monitoring.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, Terraform, Kubernetes, API authentication flows, and networking.
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle and collaborating with platform, architecture, and governance teams.

Nice to have

• Exposure to generative AI and agentic tooling such as Agent Development Kit or LangChain.
• Experience configuring large language models to optimise cost and benefit.
• Understanding of retail banking or willingness to learn the domain.
