Chief Accountant, Payments (Kazakhstan)

What you will do

• Own full-scope bookkeeping and accounting under IFRS and Kazakhstan legislation, ensuring readiness for external audits.
• Account for and reconcile segregated client funds separately from company funds.
• Prepare financial, tax, statistical, prudential, capital, group, and parent-company reporting.
• Build and maintain a regulator-ready internal control system and prepare documentation for auditors and the National Bank of Kazakhstan.
• Act as the key finance contact for regulators, auditors, tax authorities, and correspondent banks.
• Lead the accounting team, outsourced providers, and the group's central accounting function.

Requirements

• Higher education in accounting, finance, or economics; professional certification such as ACCA, CAP/CIPA, or DipIFR is valued.
• 10+ years of finance and accounting experience, including 5+ years as Chief Accountant or Deputy Chief Accountant in fintech, payments, banking, or microfinance.
• Experience with full-scope IFRS accounting, Kazakhstan legislation, international group reporting, tax audits, and liaison with tax authorities.
• Knowledge of Kazakhstan payment-system legislation, first-category payment organisation requirements, client fund segregation, prudential norms, and capital requirements.
• Experience with Big Four external audits and preparation of documentation for auditors and regulators.
• Fluent Russian is required for statutory records and reporting; English at intermediate level or above is required for communication with the international group.

Nice to have

• Experience with NetSuite, including bookkeeping, reporting, and general ledger modules.
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and large datasets.
• Experience with online banking platforms used by Kazakhstan banks.
