Senior Java Developer (Kafka/API)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada; hybrid work from home or the office. Periodic weekend or after-hours work may be required, with occasional travel between hirify.global locations.

Salary: CAD 90,000–140,000 per year, plus eligibility for incentive plans.

What you will do

• Lead and participate in the design, development, and deployment of Java REST APIs and microservices.
• Build event-driven services that consume Kafka topics and develop domain services connected to MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
• Deploy containerized services to Kubernetes environments across on-premises infrastructure and AWS.
• Apply approved architecture standards and incorporate emerging API technologies.
• Use and enhance CI/CD tools and processes, including Jenkins, Artifactory, Bitbucket, Gradle, Continuous Delivery Director, and Ansible.
• Debug service defects, support legacy APIs, and mentor colleagues.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of Java application analysis and development experience across the full application development lifecycle.
• Strong experience with Java APIs, REST, SOAP, Spring, JSON, OpenAPI, Swagger, web services, and web hosting technologies.
• At least 1 year of experience with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Artifactory, Bitbucket, Maven, CDD, or Ansible.
• At least 2 years of experience with Kafka or Kafka Streams, including KSQL.
• Post-secondary diploma or degree in Computer Science, plus strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Reliability Status Clearance and satisfactory background checks are required before employment starts and during employment.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes, Okta, AWS, MongoDB, Group Benefits products, WebSphere, DB2, Java UI, SonarQube, or enterprise service bus architectures.
• French and English bilingualism is required for positions based in Quebec.
