TL;DR
Cybersecurity Analyst - Tier 2 (Cybersecurity): Monitoring, investigating, and mitigating complex cyber incidents for Department of Veterans Affairs digital assets with an accent on SIEM/EDR alert triage, incident analysis, and SOAR-enabled response. Focus on identifying root causes, tuning detection and automation processes, documenting response playbooks, and improving SOC capabilities during 3rd-shift operations.

Location: Onsite daily in Martinsburg, WV; Austin, TX; or Hines, IL, United States. 3rd shift, Tuesday–Saturday.

What you will do

  • Monitor and triage real-time security alerts using SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, and network monitoring tools.
  • Investigate, analyze, prioritize, and resolve complex cybersecurity incidents, including attack-pattern and root-cause analysis.
  • Recommend remediation measures and document incident actions, findings, and lessons learned.
  • Maintain incident response playbooks and collaborate with forensics, threat intelligence, IT, network administration, and management stakeholders.
  • Tune alerts and improve the performance of security analytics and automation processes.
  • Use SOAR platforms for enrichment, containment, and remediation, while mentoring junior incident response staff and participating in cybersecurity exercises.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of incident response experience in an enterprise-level SOC.
  • Deep knowledge of cybersecurity principles and incident response methodologies, with experience using SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, network monitoring tools, and ServiceNow.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, independent-working, and teamwork skills.
  • Public Trust clearance required; must hold or be willing to obtain an approved incident handling or ethical hacking certification.
