TL;DR
Oracle Database Consultant (Oracle/PostgreSQL): Managing and improving Oracle database and application infrastructure for client environments with an accent on backup and disaster recovery, database migration, cloud monitoring, and data architecture. Focus on designing resilient database solutions, migrating workloads between on-premises and cloud platforms, and troubleshooting complex operational issues.
Location: Uruguay; remote from home with no daily travel requirement to an office

What you will do
- Design, implement, configure, administer, and maintain Oracle database and application infrastructure.
- Analyze client infrastructure, improve operational procedures, and support high availability, recoverability, clustering, replication, failover, and database restoration.
- Administer backup and disaster recovery procedures, monitor environments, respond to alerts, and troubleshoot operational issues.
- Develop data architectures, normalized and dimensional models, DDL, transformation scripts, and migration procedures.
- Manage client commitments, status and incident reporting, change control, documentation, and technical client alignment.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives, monitoring enhancements, toolkit development, and an on-call rotation typically covering one weekend per month.
Requirements
- Experience installing, configuring, upgrading, and administering Oracle databases and related tools.
- Experience with automation technologies such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, or Salt.
- Strong debugging, systematic troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills.
- Experience with cloud-native and managed database monitoring tools, including AWS CloudWatch, Google Cloud Operations, and Azure Monitor.
- Experience migrating Oracle, MySQL, and MSSQL databases to PostgreSQL, including ora2pg, database migration services, and CDC-based techniques.
- Must be located in Uruguay; remote work requires a stable internet connection.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of ITIL and experience contributing to Oracle, database, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience with on-premises and cloud database migrations, schema conversion, SQL compatibility, and post-migration performance tuning.
- Experience with Debezium, Striim, Prometheus, Grafana, SolarWinds, pgAdmin, Zabbix, Nagios, or Datadog.
- PostgreSQL administration in AWS, GCP, Azure, virtualized, or cloud environments.
- Scripting with Bash or Python and software development with C++, Java, or Go.
