Language Specialist (Japanese)

Location: Munich or Berlin, Germany. Hybrid work with office attendance twice a week.

What you will do

• Act as a Japanese linguistic consultant across Research, Product, Sales, and other teams.
• Test and evaluate products and features before and after launch.
• Assess linguistic quality in human- and machine-generated data and investigate user complaints.
• Design linguistic tests, evaluate freelance linguists, and provide actionable feedback.
• Partner on experiment and evaluation design, including measurement and validation approaches.
• Use AI to improve workflows and explain complex linguistic phenomena to technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

• Native-level Japanese proficiency and deep familiarity with Japanese cultural and professional contexts.
• English fluency at C1+ level.
• Bachelor’s degree in linguistics, translation, foreign languages, language teaching, or a related field.
• At least two years of experience in translation, localization, linguistics, education, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of Japanese linguistic resources, research best practices, machine translation, and common machine-output error patterns.
• Experience with AI prompting, LLMs, NLP, or AI-led workflows, with strong written and spoken communication skills.
