FR/EN Head of Adaptation Service (Bilingual Editorial Management): Managing a team of adaptation editors and translating and adapting political news content between French and English with an accent on editorial quality, EU terminology, scheduling, and professional development. Focus on building shared bilingual standards, coordinating same-day publication workflows, and ensuring precise cross-language adaptation across European newsroom editions.

Location: Full-time, based in the newsroom in Brussels, Belgium. Working hours are approximately 1pm–9pm each weekday.

What you will do

  • Manage a team of adaptation editors and maintain shared editorial quality standards, style norms, EU terminology, and examples.
  • Organise schedules, holidays, absences, workload planning, backups, and team work-life balance.
  • Run regular individual and group check-ins, provide structured feedback, and support professional development.
  • Oversee recruitment and onboarding as the adaptation team expands.
  • Translate and adapt articles between French and English for the Energy, Power, or forthcoming EU vertical, meeting same-day publication deadlines.
  • Review adaptations for factual accuracy, names, titles, terminology, and language quality while collaborating with journalists, editors, and proofreaders.

Requirements

  • Native-level English or French and at least C2 proficiency in the other language.
  • Background in journalism or related experience, with at least three years as an editor in a media organisation.
  • Previous team management experience, regardless of team size or duration.
  • Strong attention to detail, active listening, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and feedback skills.
  • Solid understanding of EU institutions or strong motivation to deepen this knowledge.
  • Ability to work from the Brussels newsroom during the required weekday schedule.
