AWS Data Engineer - II

Location: 100% remote within the United States; candidates from California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington will not be considered.

Salary: $85,389–$116,975 per year

What you will do

• Lead the modernization of a healthcare data platform and define the target cloud-native AWS data architecture.
• Evaluate AWS storage and query services, including S3, Athena, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, and OpenSearch, based on reporting needs, cost, performance, and scalability.
• Design relational SQL reporting and query layers over XML and other semi-structured healthcare data for business stakeholders and analysts.
• Architect and execute the migration of MSSQL XML object-store data, including storage formats, partitioning, schemas, catalogs, and metadata.
• Optimize query performance and costs while collaborating with C#/.NET engineers on EDI processing and data flows.
• Build CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code using AWS-native tooling, CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform, and document architecture decisions and data flows.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software or data engineering experience with a strong AWS focus.
• Production experience architecting cloud data platform migrations in enterprise or healthcare environments.
• Hands-on experience with AWS data services including S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, and CloudWatch.
• Strong SQL skills, experience with XML-heavy data stores, and ability to design query layers over XML or JSON data.
• Experience with Git/GitHub, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, Agile methodologies, JIRA, and technical documentation.
• U.S. citizenship is required. Must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI) and meet government security-investigation requirements.

Nice to have

• AWS certifications.
• Experience with EDI X12 medical claims, including 837, 835, and 277CA, as well as HL7 or FHIR.
• Familiarity with C#/.NET integration services, Entity Framework migrations, healthcare payer or PBM systems, and HIPAA requirements.
