Staff Software Engineer, Data Systems (Python)

Location: Remote in Canada

Base salary: $190,000–$220,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Own the architecture of the data integration and ingestion platform.
• Define technical direction for event-driven and batch processing, including build-versus-buy and migration decisions.
• Establish standards for observability, data freshness, reliability, and failure handling.
• Lead platform design across data engineering, infrastructure, product, and business stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and code contributions.
• Identify and drive resolution of unscoped platform problems.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software or data engineering experience, including architecture ownership for large-scale ingestion, ETL, or integration platforms.
• Deep Python expertise with strong SQL and cloud data warehouse experience, such as BigQuery.
• Experience designing API-based ETL systems at scale using REST, GraphQL, webhooks, authentication, and multi-tenancy.
• Production experience with Airflow or similar orchestration tools, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Technical leadership experience setting direction, aligning engineers across teams, and improving engineering practices.
• Experience mentoring engineers and making sound platform durability and delivery trade-offs.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, API keys, secrets management, and secure multi-tenant architectures.
• Experience with ERP, CRM, CDP, or other enterprise data systems and APIs.
• Exposure to event-driven architectures and real-time data processing.
• Knowledge of data governance, GDPR, SOC 2, and security practices for sensitive data.
• Experience in multi-tenant SaaS or large-scale data-intensive environments.
