Senior PHP Engineer

Location: Remote-first; Foxbox Digital works across the United States and LATAM.

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, and modernize web applications using PHP and related technologies.
• Work with Drupal, Laravel, APIs, integrations, modern JavaScript frameworks, and cloud-native architectures.
• Translate client business needs into technical designs, estimates, implementation plans, and scalable solutions.
• Develop backend services, APIs, integrations, modules, and application functionality.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across backend, frontend, database, and infrastructure layers.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, mentoring, technical discovery, and project planning.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience with significant PHP backend experience.
• Experience with PHP frameworks or platforms such as Laravel, Symfony, or Drupal, including complex existing codebases.
• Knowledge of object-oriented programming, software architecture, design patterns, RESTful APIs, third-party integrations, and relational databases.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD practices, testing, and tools such as PHPUnit.
• Strong debugging, analytical, communication, ownership, and problem-solving skills in client-facing consulting environments.
• Fluency in English is required.

Nice to have

• Hands-on Drupal development, custom modules, or integrations.
• Experience with Laravel, Symfony, React, Vue, React Native, Docker, cloud platforms, microservices, and legacy modernization.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, Agile delivery, and client-led technical discovery.
• Experience in consulting, professional services, digital agencies, or other client-facing engineering roles.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Gemini CLI, OpenAI Codex, or GitHub Copilot.
