TL;DR
Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Surgical Robotics): Developing and industrializing precision assembly processes, tooling, metrology, and manufacturing controls for robotic arm structures and instrument-drive mechanisms with an accent on micron-level assembly accuracy, electromechanical integration, and regulatory-grade validation. Focus on controlling kinematic error, implementing precision fixtures and equipment, troubleshooting complex manufacturing issues, and scaling surgical robotic production.

Location: Santa Clara or Milpitas, California, United States; may require up to 10% domestic and international travel.

Company

hirify.global develops surgical robotics, flexible robotics, and digital solutions for advanced medical care.

What you will do

  • Lead manufacturing engineering, new product introduction, process development, and industrialization for surgical robotic systems.
  • Design and own assembly processes for multi-axis robotic arms, kinematic chains, joint assemblies, wrist mechanisms, and instrument-drive units.
  • Define datum schemes, fixturing, metrology, instrumentation, fastening, bonding, lubrication, dispensing, and alignment systems.
  • Develop project plans and implement precision equipment, fixtures, tools, and manufacturing controls.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electromechanical issues affecting product launches and production.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Operations, Development Engineering, and Production while coaching junior engineers and technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, biomedical engineering, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least four years of manufacturing or assembly engineering experience, including surgical robotic arms or comparable precision electromechanical equipment.
  • Experience with precision joint assembly, bearing preload, harmonic drives, cable-driven mechanisms, and encoder integration.
  • Expertise in CAD, preferably SolidWorks, ASME Y14.5 GD&T, and 3D tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Experience with BOM structures, MPI, DHR, MES, PFMEA, SPC, Cpk, DOE, and Minitab or equivalent tools.
  • More than three years of experience in a regulated quality environment, with knowledge of applicable systems, SOPs, and processes.

Nice to have

  • Experience with surgical robotics platforms, NPI environments, and robotic arm kinematic calibration.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9283, EtherCAT, CAN bus, or real-time motion control architectures.
  • Experience with micro-assembly, magnification-assisted assembly, carbon fiber composite structures, MES, or PLM tools.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on life-critical medical technologies connecting precision engineering with patient outcomes.
  • Collaborative environment involving R&D, quality, regulatory, operations, and production.
  • Opportunity to influence manufacturing strategy from concept through scaled production.
  • Inclusive workplace with equal employment opportunity and applicant accommodation support.
