Engineering Manager (AI) (TypeScript/Node.js/Vue.js/Python): Leading the Templating Domain engineering team that builds template authoring, configuration, asset generation, and rendering capabilities for a creative automation platform with an accent on technical leadership, architecture, reliability, and pragmatic AI adoption. Focus on growing a distributed engineering team, making complex architectural decisions, balancing delivery with technical debt, and leading production incident improvement.

Location: Remote within South Africa, with the option to work from the Cape Town office; hybrid workplace

What you will do

Lead, coach, hire, onboard, and grow an engineering team of around 10 engineers in the Templating Domain.
Provide technical leadership across architecture, engineering practices, operational excellence, and long-term domain health.
Partner with Product and Design to define priorities and deliver customer and business impact.
Own delivery, quality, reliability, scalability, and maintainability for customer-facing systems.
Guide the pragmatic adoption of AI across engineering and product development.
Lead production incident management and continuous improvement while collaborating with adjacent teams.

Requirements

At least 2 years of experience as a Lead and/or Engineering Manager managing 5 or more engineers, including remote team members.
Strong software engineering background, ideally in a B2B SaaS environment, with experience guiding technical decisions.
Experience with modern web technologies, including TypeScript, Node.js, Vue.js, and Python for AI-related development.
Experience building and operating customer-facing products with architectural and operational complexity.
Ability to balance feature delivery, technical debt, platform investments, and long-term maintainability.
Strong communication, coaching, technical leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
