Policy and Regulatory Affairs Manager

Location: Remote - United States

Base salary: $115,000–$130,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Develop and execute regulatory and legislative engagement strategies across the central and eastern United States, with a focus on Midwest markets including Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and neighboring states.
• Lead participation in public utility commission proceedings, legislative sessions, integrated resource planning, virtual power plant studies, and distribution system planning.
• Advocate for grid modernization, demand-side management, transportation electrification, energy storage, DERMS, demand flexibility, and innovative utility programs and rates.
• Research regulatory developments, policy initiatives, rulemaking, ratemaking, and grant programs to support business strategy and product roadmap planning.
• Build relationships with regulators, legislators, utilities, trade associations, customers, and other stakeholders while developing consensus and advocacy campaigns.
• Create regulatory comments, white papers, blog posts, briefings, and other thought leadership materials in collaboration with Product Marketing and external consultants.

Requirements

• BA/BS and 5–10 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years in the energy sector.
• Knowledge of the electricity industry, utility business models, distributed energy resources, demand-side management, and grid modernization.
• Experience with federal, state, or utility-led energy initiatives and an understanding of distribution system management.
• Strong regulatory writing, copy editing, analytical, stakeholder management, and consensus-building skills.
• Experience using Excel, Salesforce, Tableau, or similar tools for data analysis and visualization.
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship or other immigration-related support is not available.

Nice to have

• 7+ years of experience in the energy and utilities industry.
• Experience with a state public utility commission, state legislature, or regulatory body, particularly in the Midwest.
• Experience with energy efficiency, demand-side management technologies, utility stakeholder proceedings, or working groups.
• Experience analyzing the market impact of new policies, regulations, and program implementation rules.
• J.D., MPA, or another relevant advanced degree.
