Senior Android Engineer (Android/Digital Design Systems): Building and evolving reusable Android UI foundations for Tesco’s digital ecosystem with an accent on component APIs, accessibility, testing, documentation, and release discipline. Focus on translating design tokens and interaction guidance into production-ready components, improving developer tooling and onboarding, and supporting safer migrations with AI-assisted engineering tools.

Location: Welwyn Garden City, United Kingdom; hybrid with 60% of the week at office locations or local sites and the remainder remote

What you will do

Build, maintain, and evolve reusable Tesco Digital Design System platform components for Android.
Translate design intent, tokens, component states, and interaction guidance into production-ready Android implementations.
Improve developer experience through documentation, examples, onboarding, contribution guidance, support, and migration tooling.
Collaborate with design, accessibility, product engineering, and platform peers across iOS, Android, React Native, and Web.
Use AI-assisted engineering tools, MCP-ready context, and component metadata to improve quality, consistency, and developer self-service.
Provide senior engineering leadership through architecture, code reviews, mentoring, pragmatic delivery, and technical communication.

Requirements

Senior-level Android platform engineering experience.
Experience building reusable UI foundations, component APIs, and production-ready Android implementations.
Ability to deliver strong test coverage, accessibility support, clear documentation, and disciplined releases.
Strong architectural judgment, code review, mentoring, communication, and collaboration skills.
Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement based around Welwyn Garden City, with regular office or local-site attendance.
