TL;DR
Senior Software Engineer (Web/Backend): Designing, developing, and delivering web applications and backend services for Roku's TV streaming platform with an accent on usability, performance, scalability, and maintainability. Focus on building REST APIs and scalable user interfaces, integrating JavaScript MVC frameworks, and providing technical leadership in a geographically distributed team.
Location: San Jose, United States; hybrid work with office attendance generally required Monday through Thursday and up to one day per week of telecommuting
Salary: $324,700–$425,000 annual salary for California

What you will do
- Design, develop, and deliver high-quality web applications and backend services.
- Add functionality to existing systems while improving usability, quality, performance, and scalability.
- Design and implement user interfaces and REST APIs that support customer needs.
- Collaborate with UX designers, product management, end users, and geographically distributed teams.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, mentorship, and support for team members and existing products.
- Deliver feedback to the business within an agile, continuous-deployment environment.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science or a related field, plus at least 2 years of experience as a Software Engineer or in a related occupation.
- Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science or a related field, plus 5 years of progressive experience as a Software Engineer or in a related occupation.
- At least 1 year of experience developing web applications with HTML, CSS, and ES6.
- At least 1 year of experience designing, implementing, and consuming REST APIs using Java, C++, Python, Ruby, Node.js, or Go.
- At least 1 year of experience with a JavaScript MVC toolkit in a single-page architecture, including Angular, Dojo, React, Vue, or Backbone.
- At least 1 year of experience mentoring geographically distributed teams and delivering performant, scalable, maintainable user interfaces and APIs.
