Senior Software Engineer (Space Communications)

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Standard working hours with minimal travel.

Basic compensation: $126,900–$158,600 per year in El Segundo, California.

What you will do

• Design, engineer, analyze, and develop software prototypes and applications within a multidisciplinary systems engineering team.
• Engage stakeholders to define problem spaces, capabilities, priorities, and end-user requirements.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including user stories, design, development, automated testing, and operational support.
• Design and develop features using complex algorithms, microservices, relational databases, and modern software delivery practices.
• Assess maintainability and compliance with user requirements and department standards.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and mentor team members through technical guidance and industry best practices.

Requirements

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of software development experience covering architecture, object-oriented design, coding, testing, and the software development lifecycle.
• Strong experience with one or more of Python, Java, or Go, plus JavaScript frameworks such as Angular or React.
• Experience developing and deploying web applications with microservices architecture and optimizing relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitLab, GitHub, problem-solving, technical communication, presentations, and Microsoft Office.

Nice to have

• Active Secret or higher security clearance.
• Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
• Experience with Docker, AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, application performance optimization, scalability, and resiliency.
• Experience developing secure software for DoD or federal environments and supporting mission-critical operational systems.
• INCOSE certification such as CSEP or ESEP.
