Senior Recruiter (Tech Recruiting)

Location: Lisbon, Portugal; candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Lisbon area and attend the office 3–4 days per week. Daily overlap with the US recruiting team and Bay Area hiring managers is typically expected in the late afternoon Lisbon time.

Discord is a gaming-focused communication platform used by millions of daily active users and is establishing its first engineering office in Lisbon.

What you will do

• Own full-cycle recruiting for Core Tech engineering and supporting roles, including sourcing, screening, interview coordination, and closing senior and staff engineers.
• Build Discord’s employer brand in Lisbon through meetups, community events, university and agency partnerships, and conferences such as Web Summit.
• Adapt the hiring process, offer structure, interview loops, and candidate experience for the Portuguese market.
• Partner with People, Legal, Compensation, hiring managers, and Lisbon site leadership on talent strategy and market decisions.
• Establish repeatable recruiting operations, including Greenhouse hygiene, pipeline reporting, sourcing processes, and market intelligence.
• Track hiring progress, report pipeline health, and help determine future recruiting support as the Lisbon office grows.

Requirements

• Several years of full-cycle recruiting experience, preferably in-house at a high-growth technology company.
• Demonstrated success hiring senior and staff software or infrastructure engineers in a competitive market.
• Deep, current knowledge of the Lisbon engineering talent market.
• Ability to operate independently across time zones and build recruiting plans in ambiguous environments.
• Fluent English plus either fluent Portuguese or proven experience recruiting for a technology company in Portugal without Portuguese fluency.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to represent Discord and close candidates.

Nice to have

• Experience establishing recruiting for a new office, market, or team from scratch.
• Experience recruiting for a US-headquartered or Bay Area technology company.
• Existing relationships in the Portuguese technology ecosystem.
• Experience hiring infrastructure, audio/video, performance, or security engineers.
• Familiarity with Greenhouse, modern sourcing tools, AI tooling, or the gaming industry.
