Location: Fully remote, with at least 3 hours of overlap with an East Africa timezone. Employment is currently limited to certain eligible countries. Travel is expected approximately 3–4 times per year, with additional travel during active emergency responses.
Base salary: $114,660 annually in the United States; £77,600 annually in the United Kingdom; $83,820 annually in Kenya. Compensation benchmarks are provided for other eligible countries during the hiring process.

What you will do
- Serve as the primary legal partner for Emergency Cash strategy, design, launch, and delivery.
- Build repeatable legal models covering country entry, regulatory review, government engagement, contracting, data use, and local counsel.
- Develop response-readiness tools, templates, and decision frameworks for rapid emergency deployment.
- Lead legal work during active emergencies and advise under incomplete information and tight timelines.
- Advise U.S. cash programs on public benefits, tax, privacy, family-law, payments, and state-specific requirements.
- Draft and negotiate partnership, technology, vendor, data-sharing, government, research, and community-organization agreements.
Requirements
- Qualification as an attorney in at least one jurisdiction with relevant post-qualification experience.
- Experience advising on complex program, commercial, or regulatory matters in fast-moving or high-pressure environments.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills for complex commercial, partnership, technology, vendor, and data agreements.
- Ability to interpret unfamiliar legal and regulatory frameworks and provide practical, actionable guidance.
- Working knowledge of data privacy and data protection law, plus experience coordinating external counsel or specialist advisors.
- English fluency and ability to overlap with an East Africa timezone by at least 3 hours.
Nice to have
- Experience in emergency response, humanitarian operations, or crisis-context legal work.
- Experience launching programs or operations in new countries or working across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience with U.S. public benefits, family law, charitable assistance, government programs, vulnerable populations, or sensitive personal data.
- Experience in international development or another mission-driven organization.
