Risk and Resilience Engineer (Climate Risk)

Salary: $102,000–$133,000 per year, plus eligibility for an annual bonus.

What you will do

• Develop loss and resilience models connecting physical climate hazards with financial impacts on buildings, infrastructure, and other assets.
• Estimate structural damage, repair costs and timelines, downtime, and indirect economic impacts from flood, wildfire, wind, and other hazards.
• Analyze historical loss, observational, exposure, construction, and cost datasets, addressing incomplete or inconsistent data.
• Validate model performance using statistical analysis, sensitivity testing, observational data, and uncertainty quantification.
• Build scalable multi-hazard models across asset types and geographies by incorporating engineering research, standards, building codes, materials, and construction practices.
• Develop property-level adaptation scenarios to assess how resilience measures reduce damage and downtime and evaluate their potential return on investment.

Requirements

• Ph.D. preferred, or a master’s degree with 3–5+ years of relevant experience in structural or civil engineering, operations research, resilience engineering, catastrophe risk, or a related quantitative field.
• Degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a structural focus.
• Experience with vulnerability and loss modeling, statistics, probabilistic methods, and quantitative analysis.
• Experience developing building and infrastructure risk, vulnerability, or loss models from the ground up, including calibration, validation, uncertainty quantification, and implementation.
• Advanced proficiency in Python or comparable scientific programming languages, plus experience with large datasets, high-performance computing, cloud platforms, and Git.
• Experience applying machine learning and AI to engineering, risk, resilience, or scientific modeling, with a record of rigorous research and publication.
