Health Information Specialist I (Healthcare)

Location: Onsite in Carlsbad, New Mexico, United States. Full-time schedule, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. Ability to commute between locations as needed is required.

What you will do

• Receive and process requests for patient health information according to company, facility, and authorization requirements.
• Retrieve, assemble, verify, digitize, and transmit medical records through paper and electronic health record systems.
• Protect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and applicable policies.
• Answer inbound and outbound calls, assist patients and walk-ins, and coordinate record-related requests.
• Handle administrative tasks including faxing, mail, data entry, chart preparation, and pickup scheduling.
• Meet site productivity standards and communicate work issues, changing priorities, and volume fluctuations to management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic computer proficiency, strong data-entry skills, and regular use of phones, fax machines, printers, and office equipment.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Strong attention to detail, quality, organization, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, commute between locations, and work overtime during peak periods when required.
• Must work onsite in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of HIPAA, medical terminology, electronic health record, and billing systems.
• Experience working with subpoenas or in a healthcare environment.
• Production, metric-based, or in-person customer service experience.
• Experience building relationships with onsite clients and customers.
• Interest in process improvement and providing feedback to internal stakeholders.
