Health Information Specialist I (Healthcare)

Location: Onsite in Laredo, Texas, United States; Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Ability to commute between locations as needed.

What you will do

• Receive and process requests for patient health information in accordance with company, facility, and HIPAA requirements.
• Safeguard confidential patient records and prevent unauthorized disclosure.
• Prepare, assemble, review, and maintain accurate patient charts using paper and electronic health records.
• Create digital images of paperwork and retrieve and transmit records to authorized internal and external recipients.
• Handle inbound and outbound calls, faxes, mail, data entry, patient walk-ins, and pickup scheduling.
• Meet site productivity expectations and communicate work issues, volume changes, and operational needs to management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills.
• Comfort using phones, fax machines, printers, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other office equipment.
• Ability to organize multiple tasks, work with minimal supervision, and respond to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work onsite in Laredo and commute between locations when needed; overtime may be required during peak seasons.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of HIPAA, medical terminology, electronic health records, and billing systems.
• Experience working with subpoenas or in a healthcare environment.
• Production or metric-based work experience and in-person customer service experience.
• Experience building relationships with onsite clients and customers.
• Interest in process improvement and providing feedback to internal stakeholders.
