Civil Engineer (Autonomous Construction)

Location: On-site at Robot Ranch in Austin, Texas; relocation to Austin is required if not within commuting distance. Travel to job sites and extended hours may be required.

What you will do

• Develop and review grading plans, cut/fill calculations, and earthwork designs for active construction sites.
• Translate civil engineering designs into execution plans for automated and remote-controlled equipment.
• Analyze topographic surveys, soil conditions, drainage, and erosion control requirements.
• Collaborate with field operations, equipment operators, and automation and software teams to ensure designs are executable.
• Monitor earthwork progress against design specifications and adjust plans as field conditions change.
• Support permitting, compliance, civil authority coordination, and the improvement of future earthwork planning systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with earthwork design, grading, and cut/fill analysis on construction projects.
• Working knowledge of civil design and grading software such as Civil 3D, AGTEK, Trimble Business Center, or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of earthwork construction techniques, equipment, and site execution.
• Ability to interpret site plans, topographic surveys, and construction drawings.
• Must be willing to relocate to Austin, Texas if not within commuting distance, work extended hours, and travel to job sites when needed.

Nice to have

• PE license or active pursuit of a PE license.
• Experience with heavy civil contractors, earthwork subcontractors, or on-site construction teams.
• Experience with GPS or machine-control grading systems and automated construction technology.
• Familiarity with permitting processes and civil authority coordination.
• Experience in a fast-paced startup environment with changing priorities.
