Engineer II (Scala/Rust)

Location: Boston, Massachusetts, or New York City, New York; hybrid schedule with remote work on Monday and Friday and in-office work Tuesday through Thursday.

Base salary: $130,000–$140,000 in Massachusetts or $135,000–$145,000 in New York, plus performance-based bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Develop large-scale distributed systems for high-volume advertising transactions.
• Design low-latency, high-performance software for routing ad request traffic with p99 latency of 20 ms or less.
• Build traffic-shaping technology that prioritizes high-value ad requests and maximizes throughput.
• Solve complex data-analysis and mathematical optimization problems related to traffic consumption.
• Optimize infrastructure costs and improve profit margins.
• Own the software lifecycle from requirements gathering through production support and participate in the on-call rotation.

Requirements

• 2+ years of software development experience.
• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience designing and implementing high-quality applications, preferably with Rust, Scala, and Spark.
• Willingness to work with functional programming principles and engage in critical, creative technical discussions.
• Ability to work in a hybrid schedule with three required in-office days each week in Boston or New York City.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Kubernetes and CNCF technologies such as Prometheus, Argo, and Helm.
