Principal Back-End Software Engineer (iGaming)

Location: Hybrid role based in Marousi/Athens, Greece or Sofia, Bulgaria

What you will do

• Write, review, and own production-quality backend code using clean architecture and test-driven development.
• Collaborate with solution and enterprise architects on backend architecture, API design, event-driven systems, and cloud-native deployment strategies.
• Produce solution designs, OpenAPI/REST specifications, and integration workflow diagrams.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a small engineering team while coordinating Agile ceremonies and delivery with product and engineering stakeholders.
• Build observability dashboards, alerting, and runbooks; lead incident response, root cause analysis, and preventive improvements.
• Coordinate with QA, infrastructure, security, and operations teams on CI/CD, infrastructure as code, automated deployments, and shift-left testing.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with recent hands-on production coding.
• Experience leading engineering teams of 2–8 people from design through production.
• Strong backend engineering experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservices, event-driven architecture, and messaging systems such as Apache Kafka, SQS/SNS, or RabbitMQ.
• Experience with AWS, including ECS/EKS, RDS for PostgreSQL, ElastiCache, and network configuration; SQL and NoSQL databases including PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• Knowledge of REST, OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth 2.0, JWT, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Splunk, Grafana, or equivalent tools.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to create technical design documents and work with non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with WSO2 API Manager or similar API gateway and IAM platforms.
• Familiarity with Player Account Management and iGaming platform concepts.
• Experience with Terraform, Helm, or relevant AWS, Azure, or Confluent Kafka certifications.
• Experience in regulated or compliance-sensitive industries such as iGaming, fintech, or media.
