2027 Governmental Accounting Practice Summer Intern (Accounting)

Location: United States offices across Colorado, Illinois, Ohio, and Massachusetts; principally in-person, with local, national, and occasional international travel.

Salary: $28.00 per hour.

What you will do

• Provide financial staffing and consulting support to cities, villages, libraries, K-12 school districts, and other public sector organizations.
• Support accounting and finance functions, including bank reconciliations, budget development, year-end close, and annual audit preparation.
• Verify, allocate, and post client transactions to journals, subsidiary accounts, and accounting files.
• Compile and analyze financial information for general ledger entries and client transaction documentation.
• Prepare balance sheets, statements of revenues and expenditures, and other financial reports.
• Improve accounting operations by drafting policies and procedures and collaborating with clients and consultants.

Requirements

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting, or a master's degree in accounting or tax.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
• Detail-oriented approach with problem-solving, communication, organizational, technical, and analytical skills.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Ability to work hours that may exceed the standard 40-hour work week and travel as required.

Nice to have

• Progress toward the education and credits required to sit for the CPA or CIA exam.
• Goal of obtaining the CPA or CIA license.
• Bilingual Japanese-English or Chinese-English candidates may qualify for an exception to the sponsorship requirement.
