Principal ML Engineer (AI)

Location: Columbus, Ohio, United States; hybrid with office attendance required at least two days per week

Base salary: $172,000–$258,000 USD per year, plus benefits and potential incentive plans

What you will do

• Own machine-learning systems end to end, from data sourcing, cleaning, labeling, and feature engineering through deployment and monitoring.
• Set architecture for model design, production serving, enrichment systems, and gateway integrations.
• Build and optimize production inference with AWS SageMaker, NVIDIA Triton Inference Server, KServe, containers, and GPU infrastructure.
• Establish reproducible datasets, experimentation workflows, model observability, efficacy measurement, and regression monitoring.
• Lead capacity planning, phased regional canary or shadow deployments, and incident diagnosis for high-load ML systems.
• Partner with Product and engineering teams, mentor engineers, and communicate technical and business implications to leadership.

Requirements

• Broad experience with transformer architectures, RNNs, CNNs, generalized linear models, gradient-boosted trees, and advanced ML applied to production problems.
• Deep Python proficiency with PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, NLP tooling, ONNX Runtime, quantization, and inference acceleration.
• Experience with retrieval systems, embeddings, vector indexes, approximate-nearest-neighbor search, BM25, TF-IDF, and hybrid retrieval.
• Production AWS ML experience with SageMaker, S3, Athena, Lambda, Glue, Kinesis, Bedrock, Terraform, IAM, containers, and Kubernetes.
• Hands-on experience with model serving, CUDA workloads, GPU debugging and optimization, LLM application patterns, MCP, and agent frameworks.
• Technical leadership experience, including setting direction, mentoring, communicating decisions, and handling sensitive data under compliance requirements; advanced quantitative education or equivalent experience is required.
