Health Information Specialist I (Healthcare)

Location: Onsite in St. Helena, California, United States; Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. Ability to commute between locations as needed.

What you will do

• Receive and process requests for patient health information according to company and facility policies.
• Safeguard patient records and apply HIPAA and medical privacy requirements to prevent unauthorized disclosure.
• Prepare, organize, verify, and maintain paper and electronic medical records.
• Create digital images of documents and retrieve and transmit records to internal and external requesters.
• Handle inbound and outbound calls, patient walk-ins, faxes, mail, data entry, and pickup scheduling.
• Meet site productivity expectations and respond to changing workloads and priorities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel, plus regular use of phones, fax machines, printers, and office equipment.
• Strong data entry, organization, customer service, and clerical skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and manage multiple tasks.
• Willingness to work overtime during peak seasons when required.

Nice to have

• Medical office or healthcare environment experience.
• Production or metric-based work experience.
• In-person customer service experience and the ability to build relationships with onsite clients.
• Experience suggesting process improvements and providing feedback to internal stakeholders.
