Sr Software Development Engineer, SRE (US Federal)

Location: Reston, Virginia, USA; may require onsite work at client locations in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. At least 50% of each quarter is spent in the office or in the field.

Annual base salary: $163,800–$245,800 for the primary Reston location; additional U.S. locations: $148,200–$264,000.

What you will do

• Run, manage, and scale containerized workloads on Kubernetes clusters in AWS GovCloud.
• Automate infrastructure, configurations, and deployment pipelines with Terraform, Terragrunt, Docker, AWS, and Argo CD.
• Design and maintain secure air-gapped deployment methods for isolated environments.
• Build monitoring, logging, alerting, and telemetry systems to improve platform reliability and visibility.
• Troubleshoot distributed platform, infrastructure, and network issues while implementing federal security and compliance standards.
• Lead technical initiatives, collaborate with development and security teams, document architecture, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required for work on U.S. federal government contracts.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government TS/SCI security clearance with CI Polygraph is required; an active TS/SCI with CI Polygraph is strongly preferred.
• For the senior/P4 level: 5+ years of experience with production cloud infrastructure, DevOps pipelines, or platform engineering.
• 3+ years of experience with Terraform or Terragrunt, CI/CD or GitOps tools, and modern scripting or programming languages such as Go or Python.
• Experience leading technical initiatives, troubleshooting distributed systems, and mentoring junior engineers.
• Production experience with Kubernetes, AWS, Docker, observability systems, air-gapped architectures, and federal security frameworks is preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS GovCloud, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, or Zero Trust architecture.
• DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II or higher certification and a current Computing Environment credential.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent military or practical engineering experience.
