Network Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco; onsite five days a week

Cognition develops Devin, an AI software engineer, and builds AI systems capable of reasoning about real-world tasks.

What you will do

• Design, deploy, and operate resilient wired and wireless networks across offices, branches, and large campus environments.
• Own network delivery for office openings, expansions, and moves, including procurement, circuit activation, vendor coordination, cutover, and handoff.
• Build secure connectivity across offices, cloud infrastructure, and Devin environments using technologies such as VPC peering, transit networking, IPsec, GRE, and SD-WAN.
• Develop reference architectures, lifecycle standards, high-availability patterns, capacity models, inventories, diagrams, runbooks, and deployment playbooks.
• Own network monitoring and observability, using telemetry and analytics to identify availability, performance, capacity, and employee-experience issues.
• Automate network configuration and deployment with scripts, APIs, infrastructure as code, source control, and CI/CD.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating enterprise or campus networks, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience operating networks in a hypergrowth startup and managing ambiguous, high-ownership work.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, network engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Deep expertise in wireless RF engineering, enterprise switching and routing, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, VPN, and structured OSI-model troubleshooting.
• Experience with high availability, network monitoring, telemetry, alerting, analytics, automation, APIs, infrastructure as code, Git, or CI/CD.
• Knowledge of network security and identity controls, including 802.1X, NAC, AAA, RBAC, segmentation, IDS/IPS, and zero-trust access.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure networking; SD-WAN, SASE, or hybrid-cloud connectivity.
• Experience with NetFlow/IPFIX, gNMI, NetBox, Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools.
• Experience applying AI or AIOps to reliability, capacity planning, or incident response.
• CCNP Enterprise, CWNP, or equivalent technical depth.
