Senior Software Engineer - Networking Traffic Team (Confluent Cloud): Building the next-generation network data plane for Confluent Cloud with an accent on scalability, performance, security, and reliability. Focus on designing distributed networking systems, operating cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP, and solving complex production challenges across microservices, containers, and virtualization.
Location: Remote within the United Kingdom; locations listed as London and Hursley, Hampshire. Some travel may be required based on business demand.

What you will do
- Design, develop, and operationalize the Confluent Cloud network data plane.
- Build highly scalable, cost-efficient, reliable, observable, and resilient networking solutions.
- Drive complex software projects independently from design through production.
- Troubleshoot and improve systems spanning AWS, Azure, GCP, microservices, containers, and virtualization.
- Collaborate with engineers across the Traffic team and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required; a master's degree is preferred.
- At least 2 years of software engineering industry experience.
- Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, large-scale systems, operating systems, disks, and networking.
- Practical experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and at least one public cloud: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Proficiency in C++, Go, Python, or another programming language.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a team.
Nice to have
- Experience with network proxies or load balancers.
- Strong networking experience combined with software engineering expertise.
