Sustainability Consultant (Carbon Accounting)

Location: Remote, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa; working hours are 9:00am–5:30pm UK time

Salary: €1,400–€1,600 per month

What you will do

• Collect, verify, and analyse client data on energy, travel, waste, procurement, and other activities.
• Calculate organisational Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon footprints using recognised methodologies.
• Prepare clear reports for client boards, investors, and regulatory submissions.
• Translate technical findings into prioritised emissions-reduction recommendations.
• Support science-based target setting and net zero roadmaps.
• Manage multiple client projects, present findings, answer queries, and improve internal calculation tools and templates.

Requirements

• Proven experience calculating carbon footprints using the GHG Protocol or an equivalent methodology.
• Strong Excel and data analysis skills, with comfort working with large datasets.
• Excellent written communication and experience producing professional reports.
• Ability to explain complex technical data to non-technical audiences.
• Working knowledge of UK sustainability regulations and reporting frameworks, including SECR, TCFD, and CSRD for EU-linked clients.
• Strong attention to detail and effective client communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with carbon accounting software such as SINAI, Watershed, Normative, or similar tools.
